Capsule for the Day

I found this sticker "attitude is everything". At first, I wondered how. How can attitude be everything. "This is too absolute", I thought. Where is God if attitude is everything? But upon deeper reflection, I came to appreciate the sticker. Attitude, in terms of answering the question "how shall I live my life" is everything. Right attitude begets right living.

In the Sermon on the Mount, Christ placed the Beatitudes at the "centre" of His Sermon. If you look carefully at "Beatitude" you will notice Be-Attitude. "Be" stands for "being", living. And Attitude is the way of being. So, Christ in the Beatitudes offers us the right attitude that begets the right way of living. No wonder He opened each with "Happy are...."

The goal of life is happiness. God wants us to be happy here on earth and to be happy with Him forever in heaven. Even the ancient philosophers named happiness as the goal of life. Aristotle for instance came up with Ethics which outlines a right way of living in order to be happy. For us Christians, the Beatitudes are our attitude, our everything.
