Capsule for the Day

Why can't I forgive? Why can't I be merciful? Our memory and Ingratitude! Forgiveness and mercy are linked with thanksgiving. It is hard to forgive when one is not thankful. It is also hard to forgive when all we remember is the bad stuff done us, the hurt and the pain we have borne. Those who readily forgive are thankful and they remember the good done.

Jane found it difficult to forgive Tom, her little brother. For years, Jane kept nursing and recalling the wrong Tom had done her. She tells her story and she enjoys the sympathy of her listeners. It was a sad story. The more she told her story, the more she justified her anger. She couldn't forgive because all she remembered was the wrong done her.

But Abby is different. Greg, her husband cheated on her. He took advantage of her faith and generousity to empty their savings. Thanks to Gambling. While she had reasons to walk out of the marriage, she remembered how Greg had helped her in High School. She was thankful to Greg. She journeyed with Greg until he recovered. Forgiveness heals.
