Capsule for the Day

James 4:7 opens with a very powerful line "Give in to God..." What does it mean to give in to God? In practical terms it means choosing not to panic when things go wrong. Because God asked us not to be afraid. So, we give in to God by giving in to His Word. His Word is a Person, Christ Jesus.

Thus, to give in to God is to live the kind of life Jesus lived. Giving in to God means being patient with others as Jesus is patient with you, with me. It means bearing the cross, the struggles of life and looking forward to the resurrection like Jesus. It means surrendering to God, His will.

His will isn't always revealed in detail. It is revealed in layers just like an onion bud. Sometimes, "the juice of His will make our eyes teary". It is common to cry, to feel abandoned when we're following the will of God. It is often a lonely ride, like Jesus on His way to Calvary. But it is a ride to victory.
