Capsule for the Day

Temple for the Jews is where God dwells. It is also where man meets God. It is a place where the covenant is ratified: I will be your God and you will be my people. Heaven meets earth in the Temple. Thus, the Temple is a Sacred Space. In John 2:13-25 Christ's body is the Temple of God.

St. Paul picked this understanding of Temple and referred to our bodies as the Temple of the Holy Spirit; meaning our bodies are the dwelling place of God. He goes on to say "if you destroy this temple, your body, God will destroy you". So, the Temple isn't just a building, it's Christ Body.

With this understanding, we can appreciate Christ's don't turn my Father's House into a market. Market is a place of many goods and many voices. The Temple is a place of One Good - God and One Word - Christ. Cleaning the Temple means getting rid of the many goods and voices that distracts us from the One Good and One Word.
