Capsule for the Day

The image of wilderness and the wild beast in Mark 1:12 is real. There are times we are driven into the wilderness. Allegorically, it is often after a big life event. It could be a breakthrough or a success record. And when all is calm and the celebration is ended, we find ourselves alone.

Alone in our own wilderness experience. Alone with no one to praise us nor affirm us, but all we hear or see are the wild beasts. The wild beast of self-doubt. "What if people come to know the truth that I don't really merit this achievement? What if this isn't real?" These wild voices torment us.

The wild voices are aggressive. They steal the joy of the moment and leave many unhappy for the rest of their lives. Have you ever wondered why for some after a breakthrough there comes a sudden breakdown? A wilderness experience, a temptation to give up on the God who made us.
