Capsule for the Day

Humility and Pride can be easily misunderstood. Humility comes from humus, earth. It is to be who we are. It means being our true self in terms of our origin and the purpose of the Creator. It means being sons, daughters of the Great Father. It means being great and doing great.

The Father didn't create us to be mediocre, second best or by-standers in the journey of life. He created us to reflect in our own life His image, His likeness, His greatness. In the light of this, Pope Benedict XVI exhorts "you are called to greatness". And Pope Francis adds "don't become less".

Pride is becoming who we are not. It is being less... It is creating our own "greatness" instead of reflecting the image and greatness of God. It is this prideful great that is reflected in Luke 1:52 (He brings down the mighty, the prideful great and raises the lowly, those who reflects God's greatness).
