Capsule for the Day
St Theresa of Calcutta said "the fruit of silence is prayer". But does that mean the silence of God? Does Theresa know what she is talking about? A young girl prayed to God for deliverance from her enemies and the answer was silence. Does that silence bear the fruit of prayer?
It is hard to keep praying to a God who is silent, a God who doesn't seem to hear our prayer let alone answer us or come to our help. But then, God in Christ Jesus didn't promise I will answer your prayer according to your will. He said, ask and you shall receive. He didn't qualify the "receive".
And this is where trust comes in. There is no need for trust when everything is certain. The fact that there is silence and not our expected answer demands we trust. The girl has to trust and look around for God's answer not her own expected answers. For silence is an answer.
