Capsule for the Day
"Where there is God, there is joy". This is a bold and absolute statement by Dietrich Bonhoeffer. The rebuttal is "God is everywhere why is there so much anxiety, sadness, and depression". We miss the point of Dietrich with the rebuttal. God is everywhere, but is He acknowledged?
"Where there is God" shouldn't be taken in the literal sense. It should be read in the sense of the author, with the remote and proximate contexts in view. Where there is God therefore refers to where God is acknowledged, worshipped and honoured as Father, Instructor and Guide of our lives.
For in honouring God, we honour the Giver of joy and the Source of joy. Now, if our earthly fathers know how to give us good things when we honour them, would God not give us joy? In other words, in honouring God, we are drawn to His Presence, and in His Presence there is real Joy.
