Capsule for the Day

Matthew 25:31-46 is very dramatic. It captures the essence of the Christian life. The sheep were at the right hand of the shepherd and the goats on the left hand. Notice the image of sheep. Typical of sheep, they know, they listen, they follow the voice of the shepherd. They do His bidding.

Why will they do shepherd's bidding? It's simple; they are right with the shepherd. Their actions flow from their being, from their right relationship with the shepherd. The goats on the other hand, have left the shepherd to do their own bidding. They aren't right with the shepherd.

To do the what the shepherd wills one has to be right with the shepherd. To do what the King commands one has to know, listen and follow the King. One has to experience the reign of God before one can reflect the values of the Kingdom in his or her life. Christ is King, let's be right with Him.
