Capsule for the Day

Society is so designed that there is a growing sense of entitlement. There is merit in being entitled, but there is also an attitude of arrogance that can result from being entitled. More and more people believe society owes them something and they are who they are because society failed them.

This arrogance is also evidence in the way we relate with God. We feel entitled to His favour, to His gifts and to His mercy. While it is true that nothing can stop God from favouring us or bestowing His gifts and mercy on us, none of us truly deserves them. We aren't entitled to God's grace.

In order not to feel entitled, Daniel prayed "we are not relying on our own good works but on Your great mercy, to commend our humble plea to You" (Daniel 9:18). In this verse, Daniel demonstrates an attitude of one who is grateful and humble. Perhaps, we could make this our attitude.
