Capsule for the Day

There are texts that ask direct questions. There are others that beg the questions. In Matthew 25:1-13, we find a text that begs the question what are the last things, things that will happen when the Bridegroom, the Christ comes. The setting is night, a symbol of restlessness and waiting.

We are restless because we are in the in-between time. We are caught in between the time we knew and have lived, and a time we don't know and yet to live. In the in-between time, there is tension; and we react differently to it. We react foolishly when we presume or aren't prepared.

The sensible ones came prepared. Perhaps, they might have known the plans of the Bridegroom. They might have asked Him or they might have gotten a clue from their closeness to Him. Closeness to God makes us wise. It helps us to know the secret of the Kingdom and to enter it.
