Homily - Daily Capsule - Fr Francis Afu

Capsule for the Day

I grew up believing my name is all I have. I earned the name. I treasure it. I protect it jealously. I love good things to be associated with my name. My whole world collapses when something bad is said about me because it immediately affects my name. My name, my identity!

But in recent days, I have come to realise that my good name can easily be destroyed by any Tom, Dick or Harry. Even the Name of Christ and that of His apostles were badly criticised and almost destroyed by their contemporaries. So, there has to be something more than my name.

Something that gives me meaning and purpose to live when my good name is gone. Something that can't be destroyed. Sharing this with a friend she said "I am a Catholic. My good name was destroyed when I was divorced. I found Christ. He is bigger than my name. He is all I have".
