Capsule for the Day

There're two things that make it difficult for us to trust God. The first is our sense of security. The second is our certainty. It goes without saying that there is no need for trust when we're secured and certain in our own right. To trust, one has to let go of his or her control and be vulnerable, be in need.

Being in need or vulnerable makes it possible for us to trust God. It helps us to see the insecurity in our perceived security and to see the uncertainty in our certainty. It draws us out of ourselves and establishes us on the Rock. Isaiah 26:4 says trust in the Lord forever, He is your Rock.

God is the Rock. He is the only certainty. He is the only security. Every other thing falls apart with time, in the face of trouble. But God never changes. Notice the metaphor, Rock. Whoever builds on the Rock has no worries about standing the test of time. Trust is about building on the Rock.
