Capsule for the Day
It can be very easy for us to be our best selves in an atmosphere of praise. When the going is good and everybody is singing the litany of our good works, we can easily put on a happy man or woman face. But it isn't so easy when the praise dies off and there is no more acknowledgement.
The true test of a man isn't always at day break. It is at night, in the dark or in the cloud of uncertainty, when nothing seems to add up; when there are more complaints than there are acknowledgements; when friends aren't friendly anymore; and when he hears more NO than YES.
The question is how do we deal with negatives: rejections or another point of view. How do we relate with those who disagree with us? The temptation is to react, to withdraw into our own world. But it is healthy in this situation to act, to rise above the negatives and be our best selves.
