Capsule for the Day

"The spirit of the Lord is upon me. He has sent me to bring the good news to the poor". When we hear the word poor, our minds often brings to the fore the image of the materially poor in Africa or Latin America. But that is one kind of poverty, a very mild kind compare to the poverty of the mind.

But there is another kind of poverty, the poverty of lack of hope, in simple terms despair. This poverty is a plague in our contemporary society. It is a poverty that ruins us; makes us to see only the problem and nothing more; not even the possibility that God can help us, or He can forgive us.

When we talk about hope, we aren't talking about mere optimism. We talking about a virtue that is built on the Promise: revealed and fulfilled in Christ Jesus. In Him, we see what God can do and is doing. He forgives. He doesn't allow suffering and death to have the last word. He saves us.
