Capsule for the Day
"Plus ratio quam vis", reason not force is one Latin expression that is greatly needed in our time. We need to reason with those who disagree with us or hold another point of view. We don't need to use coercion or intimidation to make others accept us, our beliefs and values. Reason....
Reason tempers our emotions and helps us to see things as a third party. It helps us to see the irrationality of our fears, worries and insecurity. It also helps us to see clearly the consequences of our intended actions. If only reason can override our bitterness, there will be no war.
But to reason and think things through isn't natural. We have to learn it. It is an art. And like all arts, we have to develop a love for it. However, reason on its own without the light of faith could be cold and mean. Thus, our reasoning has to be enlightened by the Love of God and neighbour.
