Capsule for the Day

Humility, coming to terms with earth. Being oneself and knowing oneself for who one truly is. It is the fruit of self-knowledge. It is the fruit of a healthy conscience. Socrates said "an unexamined life isn't worth living". Humility is the fruit of an examined life; it is the fruit of critical reflection.

Mercy is God reaching out to justify us. He justifies us so that we can make right our actions. Just as we receive mercy from God, we, in turn, have to reach out to justify others. What is it that God justifies in us? His Goodness, Image and Likeness! In mercy, God says, see how good you are.

Mercy is the fruit of humility. When we know who we truly are, we are moved to reach out to others. We see more than their sin, their bad behaviour. We see what God sees in us... His Goodness. We don't condemn. Jesus with the adulterous woman. He saw more, her future and redemption.
