Homily - Daily Capsule - Fr Francis Afu

Capsule for the Day

When we are confronted with the reality of life, we all react differently. While some of us ignore or deny the reality, others panic and let the reality get hold of them. The disciples in the Gospel reading today panicked. They panicked because they were without Christ in the boat. They were empty.

The message is obvious. Where Christ is absent, there is crisis: crisis of faith. But there is something more to the Gospel's story. It is the fruit of this crisis namely fear that blurs the disciples' vision and made them to take Jesus for a ghost. Fear blinds us. We don't see things as they are.

But in the midst of the crisis Christ appeared. He comes walking on the sea, revealing He is the Lord of the sea. He has the final say. Indeed He has the final say even in the reality that is confronting you at moment. Don't let fear get hold of you. Cry out to Christ in prayer and wait on Him.
