Capsule for the Day
Transfiguration, what is it all about? It is about a change in form. Why the transfiguration? We will appreciate "the why" when we reflect on the context in which the transfiguration is situated. Jesus had just announced His future. He will be defeated and put to death by the Romans.
That wasn't fun. The disciples started to count their losses. You mean the Messiah will not save us from the Romans, He will even be killed by them? Why should we follow Him then? We can only imagine their frustration and their despair. The transfiguration is meant to strengthen them.
The transfiguration is a statement of fact: that pain, defeat and death don't have the last word. The Father does. That is why the Father spoke and urged us to listen to His son whose life, death and resurrection is our future. Thus, we are to look beyond our reality to the glory revealed by Christ.
