Homily - Daily Capsule - Fr Francis Afu

Capsule for the Day

Grace, Mercy and Blessing, they are all God’s gifts. He gives them freely, but we have to claim them. They are treasures hidden in life's fields, the scriptures, creation. To have them, we have to sell, to let go the ownership of a culture of merits and earnings and buy into the culture of God's favour.

In Grace, God freely gives us the favour we don't merit nor deserve. In Mercy, God favours us by taking away from us the punishment we deserve and merit. In Blessing, God simply gives us both Grace and Mercy. Christ Jesus is the icon of God's Blessing. His whole Life reveals God's favour.

In the miracle in Canna, He favoured the couple with the Grace of the best wine they didn't merit. With the woman caught in adultery, He favoured her by taking away the punishment she deserved. On the Cross, the good thief enjoyed God's Blessing. Now, in Christ, we, too, can find God's favour.
