Capsule for the Day

As a priest, it is easy to preach about human suffering and its meaning. It is easy to talk about looking at the bright side of life and staying positive. It is easy to preach about hope and how faith works. It is easy to call all to forgive and to find healing. It is easy to talk about God’s love etc.

But it is hard to be the listener to all the faith talk and live it out. When we are confronted with reality, these words often don’t make sense. We struggle to reconcile reality with faith talk. The whole question of evil and the Good God arise. I struggle with this question and so do many I meet.

Unfortunately, I have no answer. But the mystery of the Cross answers the question. The Good God suffered. Evil did its worst. However, evil didn't have the final say. It destroyed itself, pain was then transformed to gain. How does this help a dying cancer victim? By letting the mystery be the mystery.
