Capsule for the Day

Have you ever wondered why you could be telling someone a great story and all of the sudden he or she turns around and asks you "what did you say". It shows the person wasn't listening. Or it shows that what you were sharing didn't serve the person's interest, as a result, he or she tunes out.

Sometimes it could also reveal the inner state of a person. He or she is distracted by the cares of this life: the worries, the fears and the anxieties. These emotions typically prevent us from listening. And because we don't listen, we don't understand and as such we can't bear the expected fruit.

In the parable of the sower, we find Jesus using the parable to draw His audience to the awareness of their situation of not listening to the Word and for them to make a decision to listen. He is the Word, and for them to bear the fruits of the Kingdom: joy, happiness, peace and love, they have to listen to Him.
