Capsule for the Day

"Do not be afraid of going down to Egypt, for I will make you a great nation there. I myself will go down to Egypt with you. I myself will bring you back again..." What is Egypt? It is symbolically a place of refuge and also a place of oppression. It is a place of uncertainty, a grey zone.

It is a place to come out of and a place to run to. One can't say for sure what it really is. So, why would God tell Jacob "do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, a place of certainty?" Notice, "go down." Why did He promise to make him great there? It is simple, uncertainty is the ground for faith.

So, don't be afraid of the grey areas of life. God has promised to go down with you to your doubts, your uncertainties. He has also promised to bring you back to faith. For example, God was with Thomas in his doubt and brought him back to faith by his profession: My Lord and My God.
