Capsule for the Day

What on earth what Jesus thinking when He made Peter the rock? Peter was very impetuous. He knew Peter would deny Him. He even referred to Peter as Satan. Did Jesus make a mistake in His choice of Peter? Why didn't He choose John, the beloved or Jude, the stable and gentle Apostle?

Why Peter? The more we ask the question, the more we are drawn to conclude Jesus made a mistake. Peter for all we know of him would never pass for a hero or a wise man. He talks without thinking. He always gets into trouble. But the Lord chose him. He chose him to be the rock.

Was he good enough for his contemporaries? No. Was he good enough for God? Yes. He chooses the weak, He said, to shame the wise. But more importantly, He chooses those who are weak enough to let Him be strong in them. St. Paul is a good example here, he boasts of his own weakness.
