Homily - Daily Capsule - Fr Francis Afu

Capsule for the Day

We are a people of the covenant. A covenant that is ratified by the blood of the Lamb. A covenant that makes us equal partners in dialogue with the self-communicating God. He is our God and we are His people. The demand of this covenant relationship is the call to be faithful, to obey.

God is the author and initiator of this covenant. He is faithful to the bond of the covenant, and He expects us to be faithful too. There are blessings attached to fidelity to the covenant. The trouble many a time is we aren't faithful to the bond, but we expect to enjoy the fruit of the covenant.

The Israelites in their pilgrimage were very much in trouble here. They were often not faithful to God. They kept breaking the bond of the covenant and kept expecting God to favour on them. The truth is God favoured them, but their infidelity to the covenant deprived them of blessings.
