Homily - Daily Capsule - Fr Francis Afu

Capsule for the Day

He came on a donkey signalling peace. They spread palms on the road, a rich symbol of rejoicing and triumph. It was all peaceful, with lots of cheering. But the joy of the day was short lived. He was betrayed by His very own. Peter denied Him three times; others deserted Him.

Today, we celebrate the paradox... the sweet-and-bitter of life. The cheering crowds became the jeering mob. Typical of human nature. We go with the flow... The crowd may have the say but they don't always have the truth. They choose the guilty and crucified the innocent. Is this justice?

But it is remarkable how He bore all this. He accepted His destiny... and that gave Him power to overcome the evil unleashed on Him. Besides, He destroyed the mechanism of evil by returning good for evil, love for hatred, appreciation for envy... He was truly the Son of God.
