Capsule for the Day

"Wounded healer" is a coinage of Carl Jung. He used it to describe analyst who treat patients because they have a wound, and they are moved by the reality of their own wound to care and empathise with those who have wounds. Henri Nouwen wrote a book entitled "the wounded healer".

In summary, both Jung and Nouwen offer us great wisdom in the expression wounded healer. For our deepest hurts are many a time sources of our strength. They are also our most effective tools in caring and dealing with broken people. Thus, our "scars" become our "star" that heals others.

In His meeting with the women of Jerusalem, Christ was more than the Wounded Healer. His wounds, His pains, His agony moved Him to enter into the dark world of these broken and shattered women. He stopped! He looked at them... and He healed their deepest wound - rejection...
