Homily - Daily Capsule - Fr Francis Afu

Capsule for the Day

We react differently to "falls", failures, mistakes and sins. We could cope easily with our first fall. But it gets difficult and sometimes even depressing to deal with a second fall, to cope with the reality of making the same mistake again. It is worst when it is public and very notorious.

The shame of falling isn't something we want for ourselves. We want to be the best... the invincible... the strong one... the one who is in control... on top of everything etc. Unfortunately, we don't always meet these standards we set for ourselves. We fall short, and sometime terribly so.

However, we can find solace in the fact that we are not alone in this experience. Christ fell, He fell the second time and very public. His enemies laughed Him... His friends and those who looked up to Him were disappointed. But He didn't give up... He staggered and rose, left us a lesson.
