Homily - Daily Capsule - Fr Francis Afu

Capsule for the Day

A majority of us hate anything that is bitter. We all go for something sweet. Pharmaceutical companies know this, and they often take advantage of us by producing bitter tablets with sweet coating. We enjoy the sweet part, but the bitterness hits us when the tablet dissolves on our tongues.

At this point, it is too late. We can't spit it out. We have to swallow the bitter pill. Temptation is like that. It deceives us to see sin as something sweet, good and great. We buy the lie. It promises to meet our needs. And we give in to it only to realise it wasn't sweet, good nor great after all.

But it is really hard to resist any temptation. We can't do it on our own. We need help. And it is often when we are at low point in life that the temptation becomes stronger. For Christ, it was when He was hungry; for Eve, it was when she was alone... But our victory, like that of Christ, comes from the Father.
