I Have Had Enough
"I have had enough" isn't unfamiliar to many of us. There is always an elastic limit, a point when we have to call it. Elijah wasn't any different. He was a great prophet. He stood alone against the 400 prophets of Baal. He was constantly on the run from Jezebel. He wasn't popular. He was treated like an enemy. Finally, Jezebel decided to kill him.
What a life? No friends! No home! No family! Yet, He was a spokesperson of God. He kept the law, took the risk to stand for God when every one deserted Him. God would have at least fought for him. But there was silence; no glimmer of hope. What a life? "God didn't seem to stand for him against Jezebel like he stood for God against Baal's prophets".
So frustrating! Elijah had every reason to quit, to shout "I have had enough". But it is amazing how even when we give up on God, He doesn't give up on us. He still reaches out to feed us and equip us for life's journey. For He is the God who hears the cry of the poor (like you and I) and rescues them from their distress. So cry out to Him and say it as it is.
