Tempted to do "Good"

The Devil doesn't tempt us to kill, he tempts us to save life. He doesn't tempt us to tell a lie, he tempts us to tell the truth. "You lost me Fr. Francis. What do you mean by the Devil doesn't tempt us to tell a lie. He is the father of all lies". You nailed it there. "He lies about his lies". He knows you wouldn't tell a lie if he tempts you to tell a lie. So, he lies.

Look at the temptation Jesus experienced in Matthew 4: 1-11, all that the Devil tempted Him to do were good. It is good to eat bread and turn stone into bread to feed people and self. It is true that the angels will take charge of Him when He falls (Psalm 91: 11-12). It is good to worship God, to  possess the earth. So, what is wrong with doing good?

Nothing! And that is the problem. We give in to temptations because the Devil twists the Good: he makes it look like evil and we give it up. And we then give in to the evil he dresses in the garment of the Good. Jesus knew this will be a problem that is why He said, "pray always that you don't fall into temptation". For in prayer, we discern the Good from evil.
