Take Nothing for the Journey

Mark 6:8 begs the question "how would I survive". To survive is one of Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs. It is basic and it is natural to struggle for survival. But what if there is something more, something that not only satisfies our wants and needs but also completes us? Perhaps, Christ doesn't just want us to survive, He wants us to be complete.

Thus, he wants us to be free of the burden of the cares and the concerns of life in order for us to focus on what truly matters. This is in line with Matthew 6:33, "seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you". The Kingdom of God is what matters and to be right with the King is what complete us.

But we have bills to pay. We have our own needs. Should we sit and fold our arms? Not at all. Does He know how hard it is for us? Yes, He does. He knows each of us. He knows our fears, our worries and our anxieties. He knows that carrying all these with us on the journey could weigh us down. Thus, He asks us to take none of these with us.
