Capsule for the Day
Hebrews 12 is very strong on the theme of love and discipline. The Father disciplines the one He loves... any child that is without discipline is considered illegitimate. Discipline in any form and size is painful. Discipline breaks us. But it doesn't break us to destroy us, it breaks us to transform us. So, the bread the Son took and blessed, He broke.
He also breaks all of us, those He has taken in baptism and made members of His Body by the Blood of His Covenant. Thus, our lives resemble His Broken Body hanging on the Cross. Notice, His Body is also broken because the Father loves Him. And what was broken was made whole at the Resurrection. So, too, our broken lives will be made whole.
What was broken was given... Take and eat, "this is My Body", He said. Amazing insight and powerful act of love. It was given to us as food to nourish us and as the way of life we should follow. Remember, He is the Way. Thus, whatever the Head does, the body follows. Therefore our life, our brokenness is to be given as the memorial of God's love.
