Homily - Daily Capsule - Fr Francis Afu

Capsule for the Day

It is amazing what the Lord takes and what He does with it. He took a lump of clay and created humanity. He took a tribe and formed a chosen race, a people set apart for His own purposes. He took five loaves of bread and He fed five thousand people. He took bread in Mark 14:22 and it became His Body. Whatever He takes, He transforms.

Often, what He takes isn't always the best in terms of worldly standards. He takes the forgotten, the rejected and the uneducated and turn them around into great icons that leave us in wonder and awe. God is constantly taking. Right now, He wants to take you as you are. He wants to transform you into His Body as He transformed bread.

But He doesn't just take, He blesses. He blesses by making pronouncements; calling into being that which He hopes to achieve. Notice in Mark 14:22, He took bread and said the blessing. He takes all that is of earth: our human nature, our story, and says the blessing. Thus, consecrating us, setting us apart as people of the new covenant in His Blood.
