Capsule for the Day
"Happy are the peacemakers..." Who are the peacemakers? They are considered to be those who are very accommodating or those who avoid trouble. In our politically correct society, peacemakers could be those who compromise, those who are very nice and say the right thing always and don't offend. In this case, peace is the absence of trouble.
But peace isn't limited to the absence of trouble. For one can still be at peace even in the heart of trouble. So, a peacemaker isn't just one who avoids trouble or says nice things. A peacemaker is one who enables others to be free. This freedom is founded on truth. Truth as it entails the joy and the sorrow, the troubles and the triumphs of life.
Thus, a peacemaker is one who like Christ, sometimes "disturbs the waters" and through the troubled waters leads us to peace. A peacemaker reconciles people. He or she sows the seeds of the Kingdom of peace. A peacemaker brings about justice. A peacemaker reflects Christ, Our Peace. A peacemaker enables us to be one with God.
