Capsule for the Day
John Chrysostom is right in saying that "God's love lessens the intensity of our troubles and it prevents us from having any sense of them". For God's love speaks to the very core of our being: "your troubles are short lived"; there is a future without troubles. Don't be afraid. Thus, our troubles lose their force and give way to God's care.
Troubles have no power of their own. They are neutral. We empower them by our attitude of fear and worry. This is what my mum always tells me "Your troubles, Father, are as big as the size of your worries and fears. If you fear nothing, the troubles mean nothing. At best, they only become manure that enriches your maturity. Don't be afraid".
But fear is an indicator of the absence of love. For perfect love drives away fear (1John 4:18). Perfect love isn't our love for God, but God's love for us. Where is that love, you may ask. I have never experienced it. Yes, you have. It is the love that brought you into being and is sustaining you. There is nothing you can do that will lessen that love.
