Capsule for the Day
Hebrews 12:2 is a powerful passage for those going through difficult times. The passage opens with the line "looking up to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith". The passage goes on to describe how Jesus bore His own trials and difficulties. He endured the cross.
But He didn't just endure the cross, He endured the cross for the joy that is set before Him. The cross wasn't an end in itself. In other words, He looked beyond the cross. He didn't allow Himself to be defeated by the cross, rather defeated the cross, turning it into a means of salvation.
Thus, when we look at the cross, we not only see pain and agony, we also see hope and redemption. So, looking up to Jesus can mean allowing His life to inspire and direct us as we go through our trails and difficulties. For with Christ, we can bear our trials and look forward to the victory He has won.
