Capsule for the Day
True sacrifice is love-giving. We don't sacrifice what we hate, we sacrifice what we love for love. We love what we do. We love who we are and what we have. But we sacrifice all of these for love. Love is the language of sacrifice. Love makes sacrifice real and meaningful. Love is sacrifice.
We see this playing out in families. Parents make sacrifices because they love. They sacrifice their independence for family. Mothers sacrifice their sleep to look after their sick child and so do fathers. Love makes sacrifice intelligible. For love has a reason that reason can't understand.
Love also makes sacrifice expensive. It isn't cheap to love and sacrifice. It costs one's life. The pain and groan can't be quantified. In a way, this is what make love intelligible in its own right. On the other hand, love makes sacrifice easy to bear. It makes us see more than the pain, see the gain.
