Capsule for the Day
What hangs on the Cross isn't a perfect body by human standards. But it is the perfect Body in the eyes of the Father who sent Him. The Body on the Cross reveals our own body. It reveals our hurt, our betrayal, our hatred, our dysfunctionality; it reveals the institutional injustice we bear.
It is challenging to describe the Body on the Cross as perfect. But that is the sign of contradiction Simeon spoke about. What was shame and scandal by human reckoning became the beauty and the Glory of the Trinity and that of humanity. Thus, on the Cross, we find our body, our story.
No wonder He said, when I am lifted up, I will draw all men to Myself. How? By revealing in His Body our own body. Thus, making it possible for us to see not just the Son of Man, but also ourselves. And by so doing, He draws us into His death in order to heal us and raise us to eternal life.
