Capsule for the Day
I am a chaplain at a High School. I get asked this question very often, "Does God love me". And always my answer has been "Absolutely". He loves you more than you can think or imagine. "But why doesn't He show it", they ask. He does love you, Ian. He begins by calling me and you out of our reality into His own reality. He demands something of us.
But the problem is we want to be loved on our own terms. "Love me this much in the morning, that bit in the evening and please don't touch this part of me, I will not give it up". How do we expect to experience the love of God with this attitude? Definitely, we end up being so obsessed with how we want to be loved that we can't accept God's love.
"To experience true love, one has to give the lover a chance to love as he or she can love". This is true of us humans as it is true of God. He can only love us as He can. We shouldn't expect Him to love us on our terms. He is God. He is not me or you. This is the hard demand of love, but it is what makes His love real, liberating, and helps us to love in return.
