Capsule for the Day
I Looked, and Prostrated Myself
There is something about a first date. It is an occasion when we formally meet the person we love. But there is something more; it is when we begin to know the other. We admire and behold the beauty of the other. We generally dress to impress on our first date. And it often works. We leave our partner with a sense of wow. He is so cute! She is adorable!
In Ezekiel 1: 2-28 we find what in human language we can describe as Ezekiel's first date with God. He encountered the Glory of God, and he was swept off his feet. He fell in love with God immediately and everything changed for him. He couldn't but keep talking about the Glory of God. V.28 summaries the feeling: "I looked, and prostrated myself".
Prostrate, fall on my knees, etc. are all biblical expressions for worship. But they are also the attitudes of the beloved to the
Lover, God. Like our first date, our first encounter with God changes everything in us. One can smell it at a distance. There is an unusual joy that flows from it. A joy that brings us to our knees to commit to God.
