In the Face of Battle
"Some men came and told Jehoshaphat, 'A great multitude is coming against you from Edom, from beyond the sea; and, behold, they are in Hazazon-tamar' (that is, En-gedi)" (2 Chronicles 20:2). What would you have done if you were Jehoshaphat? We have to remember he was the king of Judah, with a smaller military than his enemies.
Jehoshaphat did what many of us would have done, he panicked when he heard they were coming against him. For who wouldn't be disturbed in the face of battle? But there was something he didn't do; "he didn't rush into physical battle with his enemies". He immediately sought the Lord, and he called for a fast. He began a spiritual battle.
Notice how Jehoshaphat came up with his own strategy. He didn't meet his enemies on their own terms. He took the battle from their ground, where he knew they would defeat him to his own ground, where he could defeat them. Like Jehoshaphat, we don't have to rush into battles. We have to take our time, seek the Lord and follow His lead.
