Capsule for the Day
"Just when you are about to give up, remember from where you have come". This captures the story of the Israelites. Theirs was a story of many dark nights. The temptation to give up on God was always strong. The psalmist constantly speak of the despondency of the Israelites. God, where are you? They cried in the midst of their dark nights.
But they remembered from where they had come from. They remembered how God had carried them in the palms of His hands. They remembered the wars, the battles He fought and won for them. They remembered the manna He fed them. They remembered the prophets He sent to warn, strengthen and to give them hope. They remembered God.
Sometimes, our memories are all we have left. They tell us the truth of where we have come from, and they give us reason to "hang in there"; to accept the fact that no matter how hard it gets or becomes, the God of the Past is the same today and forever. He will do what He said He will do: "I will never abandon you; for you are mine, my beloved".
