Capsule for the Day
"Happy are those who hunger and thirst for justice, they shall be satisfied". Satisfaction is God's gift. He wants to satisfy our thirst, fill our hunger. He wants to give us justice. But it is funny how we think justice is all about punishment. Some one has wronged us, we immediately demand justice. He/she should be punished. He/she should feel the pain.
Ironically, no amount of punishment fills the void created by the wrong. The perpetrator may be thrown into prison, but the wound isn't healed. Rather, the wound may even start bleeding again because the hunger, the thirst for justice isn't satisfied. Justice is much more than punishment. It is God's self-gift, it is the revelation of the good in us.
We are satisfied when God justifies us. When we realise we are good, rise above the wrong done us and we can return good for evil. At this time, our hunger is filled and our thirst is satisfied. For justice is first received before it is given. And true justice has the capacity to forgive, to heal and to restore both the victim and the perpetrator to the original creation.
